CLARKDALE, Ariz. — The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday evening, Aug. 17, on the Yavapai-Apache Nation’s Clarkdale Reservation lands, according to a media release from the Nation.
The Nation said a Yavapai-Apache Police Department officer responded at approximately 7:30 p.m. to a reported domestic violence incident. Upon arrival, the officer encountered an adult male armed with a large knife and ordered him to drop it, according to the release.
The individual withdrew toward a residence. Additional Yavapai-Apache police officers and Clarkdale Police Department officers then arrived to assist, the Nation said.
According to the release, the individual later emerged from the residence with the knife and advanced toward officers. Officers repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon. A Clarkdale officer deployed a Taser, but the device was ineffective.
A Yavapai-Apache police officer then fired two shots. One round struck the individual in the shoulder area, according to the Nation.
Officers provided first aid at the scene. Verde Valley Fire and Medical personnel transported the individual to a local hospital for treatment.
No Yavapai-Apache or Clarkdale police officers were injured, the Nation said.
The FBI is investigating the shooting. The Yavapai-Apache Nation said it will provide additional information when it becomes available and can appropriately be released.
